MJP Supplies, the UK distributor of the German-developed seaweed biostimulant Algifol, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a special offer at this month’s British Potato event.

Since taking on Algifol in 2005, the company has witnessed growing adoption among British potato growers, crediting the product’s efficacy for rising demand and consistent repeat business.

MJP Supplies will showcase the product for the second time in Exhibition Hall A on stand 132A. The  British Potato event takes place on 18-20 November at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate.

Discount vouchers

“British Potato 2023 was our first appearance at the show, and we were very pleased with the interest Algifol received, so we’re exhibiting again,” said Marcus Palmer, owner of MJP Supplies.

To mark the 20th anniversary, the company is running an Algifol competition with 20 discount vouchers – ranging from 1% to 20%. Visitors can enter by submitting their business card or completing a simple entry form at the stand.

Algifol, produced by Neo-Med Pharma, is comprised of concentrated brown algae sourced from the North Atlantic. It is lauded for its blend of trace elements, amino acids, vitamins, and growth-regulating hormones.

Algifol is applied at a rate of one litre per hectare three times during the season. Despite challenging growing conditions, results continue to impress, says Mr Palmer, citing expanding sales and high rates of customer retention.

Trials conducted on potato varieties including Melody, Accord, and Lady Rosetta have demonstrated notable improvements: one trial on Melody saw a 29.6% uplift in tuber numbers and tubers 22% heavier than standard practice.

A second trial conducted by 3 Shires on Accord increased crop uniformity and produced an 18% increase in weight. A third trial by Whole Crop Marketing near Hull increased tuber numbers by 7% and 13%.
